Four KO Odyssey of the Mind teams advance to World Finals

Four of Keystone Oaks School District's Odyssey of the Mind Teams earned top honors in the recent State Finals and have advanced to the World Finals! These teams represent 28 students from Dormont Elementary School, Keystone Oaks Middle School, and Keystone Oaks High School.

The advancing teams are: 

  • Wise Elves. First Place, Division 1 (3rd-5th grade). In this technical problem, teams were challenged to build a robot that dismantles team created art to create an entirely new work of art. Team members: Rilynn Walker, Lena Donahue, Mia Rairigh, Finley Benkovich, Finley Patterson, Reese Dobson, and Rowan Dobson. Coach Jessica Dobson

  • KO Kitty Doggies. First Place, Division 2 (6th-8th grade). In this vehicle problem, teams were challenged with building a vehicle, engineering a creative propulsion system that performs a list of tasks including but not limited to receiving a ticket, loading food, reverse parking and ringing a bell. Team members: Martina Lenox, Geneva Deimel, Sophia Mae Winchel, Reagan Dobson, Marion Rent, Oliver Rent, and Bella Bischof. Coaches: Drew Deimel and Dan Lenox

  • Precisely Cut Potatoes. First Place, Division 2 (6th-8th grade). In this performance problem, teams were challenged with the task of building their own musical instrument that is played while their rock band is detoured. Team members: Rainer Carrington-Loyd, Piper Winchel, Afton Rogers, Iris Brownlee, Frankie Custer, Alex Smith, and Grace Luft. Coach: Jennifer Rogers

  • Iron Roses. Second Place, Division 3 (9th-12th grade). In this performance problem, teams were challenged with the task of building their own musical instrument that is played while their rock band is detoured. Team members: Kaybre Donahue, Riley Dobson, Lillian Gallego, Abigail Purtill, Bianka Guerra Naranjo, Lydia Deimel, and Nat Brooke. Coach: Geoff Dobson



Nearly 50 Keystone Oaks students competed in the State Finals. Congratulations to these teams: 

  • Salty Avocados. Third Place, Division 1 (3rd-5th grade). In this classics problem, teams were challenged with a list of classic stories to choose from, and make it their own in an "opening night" skit which does not go as planned. Team members: Lucy Null, Micah Wilson, John Domalakes, Sebastian Diller, Leo Dobson, Ralph Veri, and Sarah Honsberger. Coach Kevin Dobson

  • Donut Squad. Fourth Place, Division 1 (3rd-5th grade). In this performance problem, teams were challenged with the task of building their own musical instrument that is played while their rock band is detoured. Team members: Ian O'Connor, Jocelyn Anthon, Harper Wawrzeniak, Lidia Baldoni, Ian Lenox, Dehlia Deimel, and Bellamy Winchel. Coaches: Nicole Boback, Angela Winchel, Martina Leno. 

  • KO Klassics. Second Place, Division 3 (9th-12th grade). In this classics problem, teams were challenged with a list of classic stories to choose from, and make it their own in an "opening night" skit which does not go as planned. Team members: Shane Fehl, William McGee, Michela Robbins, Drake Robbins, Sydney Maegle, Aura Petraitis, and Anna Bittner. Coaches: Brandie Fehl and Chris Robbins
