Eradicate Hate Committee honored at regional summit, hosts second annual Cultural Celebration Day

It has been an exciting month for Keystone Oaks High School’s Eradicate Hate Committee!
In March, ten Keystone Oaks High School students joined their peers from 26 school districts for the Eradicate Hate Student Summit Reconvening, an event that highlighted student-led initiatives to prevent hate-fueled violence in their schools and communities, provided a platform for students to share their accomplishments, and connected students to helpful resources to further boost the reach and impact of their work.
At the Reconvening, sophomore Amina Babajanov was awarded one of the inaugural Eradicate Hate Student Summit Leadership Awards, which recognizes high school students and alumni who have been involved in the Eradicate Hate Student Summit.
Organized by Eradicate Hate, the Allegheny Intermediate Unit, the LIGHT Education Initiative, and The Tree of Life, the event built upon September's Eradicate Hate Student Summit, which brought together more than 450 participants from 34 high schools and 28 organizations from across western Pennsylvania. As part of the Summit, each school received a $1,000 grant to design and deliver impactful programming in their schools.
Keystone Oaks’ Eradicate Hate Committee used their grant funding to support their second annual Cultural Celebration Day. Held on the half-day prior to Spring Break, the morning-long event included bocce, a soccer tournament, food trucks and snacks, pasta making, and 10 cultural exhibits and activities - including creating tissue paper flower headbands in Mexico, playing chopstick games in Vietnam, playing a culture trivia game in France, and making Fröbel stars in Germany.
