  • Members of the Keystone Oaks School District Board of School Directors are elected officials who serve as unpaid volunteers for the Keystone Oaks community and as agents of the state legislature. Each of the board's nine members serve four-year terms and each must be a resident of Castle Shannon, Dormont or Green Tree.

Their responsibilities as members of the board mean that they are committed to creating a positive learning environment where students can realize their potential and enter the world ready for the challenges ahead.

A lot of people do not know where to turn when a problem or an issue arises so they often start at the school board level which may or may not best serve their purpose. Below is a defined chain of command designed to give the public an idea of who you should talk to when you have an issue or problem.

Teacher: The teacher is responsible for the day-to-day classroom instruction.

Principal: The building level principal is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the school within the larger school system.

Superintendent: The Superintendent translates the policies that are defined by the Board of Education into actions. He or she is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the school system.

Board of School Directors (School Board): The Board of School Directors ensures that the school system is run effectively. The function of the school board is not to run the schools but to see that they are run effectively. The superintendent is the person chosen to translate the will of the board into administrative action. Teamwork and cooperation between the board and superintendent are essential.

School directors, although locally elected, are really state officials, co-partners with the legislature. They are designated by school law to administer the school system in each district.

If you have a question or a concern regarding the Keystone Oaks School District and you wish to contact any or all of our board members you may do so by following the information provided above.

*All meetings will be held in the Keystone Oaks School District board room adjacent to the district administrative offices unless otherwise indicated. Each district citizen is welcome to attend all public meetings.
