Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment
Creating and maintaining a learning community which encourages all students to reach their maximum potential is the foundation of the Keystone Oaks School District academic program. The District offers a challenging curriculum designed to develop student skills appropriate for 21st century learners. Based in the PA Core Standards, the curriculum defines what students should know and be able to do.
The core curriculum, modeled on best practice, provides an instructional framework tailored to the needs of all students. A strong classroom instructional component and continuous assessment to measure performance and growth exist at all levels. Advanced Placement and College Preparatory courses are offered along with support classes designed to meet individual learning needs. Students with vocational and technical education interests can enroll at Parkway West Career and Technology Center. Instruction in language arts, math, social studies, and science is complemented with opportunities for students in foreign language, technology, health/physical education, and the performing and visual arts. Well-equipped library/media centers are available for students at all levels.
Curriculum development is an ongoing and fluid process. Therefore, each year, various content areas are at different stages of design, implementation and evaluation. This process is essential to ensure that our curricula provides our students with an academic advantage equal to that of comparable districts.
Standards Aligned System
The Pennsylvania Standards Aligned System (SAS) is a collaborative product of research and good practice that identifies six distinct elements which, if utilized together, will provide schools and districts a common framework for continuous school and district enhancement and improvement. Much research has been conducted as to what makes a great school. There are many intangible components; however, research supports the notion that great schools and school systems tend to have six common elements that ensure Student Achievement:
- Clear Standards
- Fair Assessments
- Curriculum Framework
- Instruction
- Materials & Resources
- Interventions.
Community Resources
In addition to the resources available at our school libraries, Keystone Oaks School District is fortunate to have three community libraries that have a number of educational resources and materials for students.
Students and parents are encouraged to visit their local library frequently. More information about the libraries is available on their websites:
